Men's Basketball Drops Tight Contest to Post, 61-58

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In the first of two matchups this season, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team dropped a tight 61-58 contest to Post University on Tuesday night.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Caleb Jacobs took the lead role for Bridgeport, putting forth one of his best all-around games of the season. The junior finished with a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds, to go along with three assists and a pair of steals.
Senior Jayden Iturmendi also finished in double figures with 14 while classmate Tim Dawson chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds. Dawson also dished out a team-best four assists.
Defensively, it was Sam DeSouza leading the Purple Knights with three blocks, while three different Purple Knights registered two steals.
Collectively, the Purple Knights finished with nine steals as they continue to lead the CACC in takeaways per game this season.
Bridgeport's 61 points allowed matches its lowest total of the season, which also came in a 62-61 win over Pace on Dec. 13.
The Purple and White have dropped three of their last four games by a combined 13 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bridgeport put together one of its best defensive halves of the season, allowing just 25 points across the first 20 minutes. The Purple Knights turned that into a five-point edge at halftime.
After Bridgeport stretched its lead to 35-25, it was an 11-0 run from Post that turned the final 14:48 into a dogfight.
The Eagles would go on to take leads of 55-50 and 59-52, but the home squad battled back each time.
The Purple Knights would eventually cut the lead to 59-58 with just 10 seconds left before two free throws from Post put them back up by three.
Bridgeport had one final attempt with eight ticks on the clock to force overtime but were unable to get a game-tying attempt off.
