Schetter leads three Setters in double-figures with game-high 19 points

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (February 10, 2022) – Pace University, receiving votes in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll and D2SIDA Top 25 poll, held Stonehill College, ranked No. 9 in the D2SIDA East Region poll, to just three field goals and 19 points over the middle two quarters to pull away for a 67-54 victory in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action inside the Goldstein Athletics Center this afternoon.

How it Happened


  • Stapleton grabbed a game and season-high ten rebounds (PHOTO BY Bob Blanchard)
    Stonehill jumped out to a six-point lead (10-4), led by six points by Thornton and sparked by a Bramanti three-pointer, less than five minutes into the game.
  • The Skyhawks lead stretched to seven (13-6) after a layup by Santoro with four minutes to play in the opening quarter, before Pace responded with a 10-2 run to grab the lead with a White three-pointer with 26-seconds to play in the frame.
  • Stonehill regained the lead (17-16) heading into the second with a jumper by senior Sophie Glidden, but the Skyhawks would make just 2-of-16 shots (12.5-percent) in the second quarter and Pace would close out the half with a 16-2 run to take a 16-point lead (41-25) into halftime.
  • Pace held Stonehill to just 1-of-14 shooting (7.1%) in the third quarter to break the game open, extending its lead to 25 points (52-27) after two Schetter free-throws less than five minutes into the frame.
  • Stonehill was able to close the gap in the final quarter, outscoring Pace 18-8 in the frame and scoring the final six points of the game, including four by Thornton, to trim the final deficit to 13.

Noteworthy

  • Pace snapped Stonehill's four game winning streak, but the Skyhawks are still winners of six of their last eight, having posted a 3-1 record thus far in February.
  • Thornton posted her second double-figure scoring game of the season, doing so in her only other start of the year at the University of New Haven (season-high 17) on January 15.
  • Stapleton's game-high ten rebounds mark the first double-digit rebounding effort of her career.
  • Stonehill made just three field goals over the middle two quarters of the game, shooting a combined 3-for-30 (10%)
  • Today's game continues a February stretch for Stonehill that will see it play nine games over the final three weeks of the regular season. The Skyhawks are not scheduled to have more than three days off (just one remaining) between games over the next 15 days.
  • This afternoon opened a run of three road games over the next five days.
