Raymond and Bramanti double-doubles lead Skyhawks to big win

EASTON, Mass. (January 11, 2022) – Stonehill College turned in its best all-around game of the season to secure a 61-51 victory over Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium tonight.

How it Happened

    Stonehill got off to a quick start on the offensive end, shooting 50-percent (10-for-20) from the floor, including 3-for-5 from three-point distance, in building a six-point (24-18) lead after just a quarter of play.
  • Stonehill led by six (12-6) less than four minutes into the game after back-to-back three-pointers from Bramanti, but Adelphi was able to pull even (18-18) after a Miccile layup with a minute to play.
  • Stonehill scored the final six points of the frame, all by Raymond, capped by a three-pointer to restore its six-point cushion (24-18) heading to the second.
  • The Skyhawks scored the first six of the second quarter, sparked by a three-pointer from freshman Maureen Stapleton, to extend its run to 12-0 and push it's the lead to a dozen (30-18) less than three minutes in.
  • Adelphi followed with the next 11 points, including four by Cuccurullo, to close within three (30-27) with three minutes left in the half, but Stonehill was able to secure a five-point margin (36-31) heading to the lockerroom.
  • After Glidden scored the first basket of the second half, Adelphi scored the next nine points, including four by Miccile, to grab its first lead of the night (40-38) after a Miccile layup midway through the third quarter.
  • Stonehill would hold Adelphi to 25.7-percent (9-for-35) shooting in the second half to secure the win, though, scoring the final eight points of the third to take a six-point lead (46-40) into the fourth.
  • Adelphi drew within two (48-46) after a Hawkins jumper four minutes into the fourth, but would get no closer, as Stonehill followed with the next ten points to regain a 12-point lead (58-46) on two Bramanti free-throws with three minutes remaining that sealed the win.

Noteworthy

  • Stonehill played its first home game since a 62-53 win over Assumption University on December 7 – 35 days ago.
  • Raymond notched her first double-double of the season (7th career), while Bramanti snared the first of her career.
  • Raymond posted her seventh double figure scoring game in eight games played this season (46th career), while Bramanti has scored in double figures all nine games this season (22 career).
  • Santoro posted her fourth double-figure scoring game of the season (15th career), while Glidden reached double digits for the third time (fourth career).
  • Stonehill led for all but 53-seconds in the game.
  • Stonehill is now 2-1 at home this season.
