CHARGERS TURN AWAY LIGHTNING
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/3/24) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team turned away the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in CACC action on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The Chargers improve to 14-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play while the Lightning fall to 13-9 overall and 8-2 in the CACC.
Dominican took the lead early in the first half and never looked back on their way to an 89-78 victory.
The Chargers held a 36-31 lead by halftime and shot 39.0% from the field.
In the second half, the Chargers took control and built a double digit lead after an 11-3 run. The Chargers later used a 7-0 run to extend to their largest lead of the game which was 19 points.
GBC made a late push in the second half but the Chargers were able to hold the lead and secure the win.
Seth Sharif-Brown (Hackensack, N.J.) led the way with 19 points on 9-18 from the field and also added five boards. Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.) scored 15 points on 7-14 from the field and recorded three boards and three assists.
Javel Cherry (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) finished with 13 points including going 3-4 from beyond the arc while Isaiah Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) finished with 11 points and added six boards.
Emmanuel Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.) each scored seven points and White recorded a team-high nine boards while Smith finished with eight. White also added a team-high five assists.
The Lightning were led by Zayon Marsh who scored a game-high 32 points and had team-highs in rebounds with nine and assists with six. Caleb Bates scored 17 points and recorded seven boards while Nazim Derry scored 11 points and Damani Thomas scored 10 points.
The Chargers finished the game shooting 49.4% from the field and held the edge in rebounds, assists, and points in the paint. The Chargers cashed in on 17 GBC turnovers by scoring 22 points off turnovers.
Dominican returns to action on Tuesday night when they host Post University for a CACC north division match up with the Eagles at 7:30 PM.
