Rylee Skinner

QUEENS, N.Y. (November 27, 2021) – A 22-point first quarter jump-started the offense for the Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team on the road on Saturday afternoon, in a non-conference matchup against the Queens College (N.Y.) Knights. Senior Rylee Skinner (Leominster, Mass.) amassed 22 points off the bench in the 78-63 win for the Ravens at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 5-2, while Queens falls to 0-5.

Franklin Pierce jumped out to a quick, 10-0 lead on the back of four points and a steal from sophomore Anna Badosa Soler (Girona, Spain) out of the gate. The lead continued to grow for the Ravens with strong play on both the offensive and defensive end in the opening quarter, as they built a 22-9 advantage heading into the quarter break. Queens came out much stronger in the second quarter and outscored the Ravens 19-18 in the frame, though Franklin Pierce still held a 40-28 lead at the half.

The Ravens then generated even more offense in the third than they had in the first. Senior Emma Carter (Bristol, Vt.) scored the first seven points in the stanza and the crimson and grey never looked back from there. Franklin Pierce notched a 26-15 advantage in the third and held a 23-point lead (66-43) heading into the final 10 minutes. The Knights cut into the final deficit with a 20-12 fourth quarter but it would not be nearly enough for Queens to mount a comeback attempt.

Skinner paced all players with 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting, to headline a 29-for-65 day (44.6%) for the Ravens, and she would add five rebounds and an assist as well. Sophomore Ines Gimenez Monserrat (Mallorca, Spain) played a well-rounded game for Franklin Pierce, as she finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals in the contest, though she left some meat on the bone with just a 4-for-12 day from the floor.

Carter rounded out three Ravens in double digits with 13 points of her own on 5-for-11 from the field, while senior Lisa Sulejmani (Burlington, Vt.) and sophomore Gisela Vazquez Segura (Igualada, Spain) snagged six rebounds apiece. Vazquez Segura posted five steals and blocked a shot too, and Badosa Soler dished out five assists.

Queens shot just 24-for-68 on the day (35.3%), and was led by junior Khadija Demry, who collected 18 points on 8-for-19 shooting. She was joined in double digits by senior Tsahai Corbie, who impressed for the home team, to the tune of 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Freshman Eldina Dervisevic corralled a game-high 10 rebounds.

Franklin Pierce is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 4, with a return to Northeast-10 Conference play on the road at Bentley University, for a 1 p.m. tipoff in Waltham, Mass.
