Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Tilt with Pace, 71-47

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup with Pace University, 71-47 at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. STAC falls to 1-9 on the season, while the Setters improved to 8-1.

How it Happened

  • Pace opened the contest with a 12-0 lead, before Chanel Brodeur-Muir broke the shutout with a layup at the 6:34 mark.
  • The visiting setters built leads of 17-4 and 19-9, before the Spartans clawed back to trail by only five at 19-14 through 10 minutes of play.
  • Back and forth action between the teams kept the score close in the second quarter, and even tied at one point (27-27) with just over three and a half minutes left in the stanza. Unfortunately, Pace went on a 6-0 run to close the half, giving themselves a 33-27 advantage at the break.
  • Sarah Ericson and Karolina Jaruseviciute led the Spartan scoring in the opening 20 minutes of action with nine points each. Pace's Lauren Schetter led all scorers in the half with 13 points.
  • STAC got within four (33-29) early in the third quarter. However, the Setters would expand their lead to as many as 16 points and retain a 14-point advantage, 50-36 through three quarters.
  • Pace built its largest lead of the game (29) late in the fourth quarter and cruised to to their eighth triumph of the season in nine attempts.

Top Performances

  • Karolina Jaruseviciute finished with 14 points for STAC, on 6-of-8 shooting.          
  • Leading the way for Mercy were Lauren Schetter with 29 points and 11 rebounds and Lauren Hackett with 10 points.
  • The host Spartans held a slight advantage on the boards, 37 to 33.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas shot 30.5% from the floor (18-for-59), while Pace shot 45.5% (25-for-55) on the evening.
