CHARGERS HOLD OFF SECOND HALF PUSH TO TOP DAEMEN UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/18/23) The regionally ranked Dominican University New York men's basketball team topped also regionally ranked Daemen University by a score of 75-72 in the 11th Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Game.
The Chargers improve to 3-0 overall while Daemen falls to 4-3 overall.
The Chargers were led by Emmanuel Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who scored 17 points on 8-9 from the field and pulled down six boards. Joseph Merrill (Derry, N.H.) added 13 points including two three-pointers and recorded five assists and four boards.
Jaden Honis (Bridgewater, N.J.) provided 12 points and six rebounds off the bench. Honis finished the game 6-8 from the free-throw line. Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.) added 10 points while Seth Sharif-Brown (Hackensack, N.J.) finished with nine points. Joshuel White (Paterson, N.J.) recorded six rebounds, five assists, and scored seven points.
Daemen was led by Dylan Fasoyrio who scored a game-high 21 points while Joey Atkins recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Justin Glover finished with 11 points while Andrew Mason recorded 10 points.
After a back and forth first half, the Chargers took a 35-28 lead into halftime. Dominican shot 40.6% from the field in the opening half.
The Chargers opened the second half strong and used a 14-6 run to extend to their largest lead of the game which was 15 points.
Daemen fought their way back into the game after they cut the deficit to four points after a 13-2 run. Daemen then cut the Dominican lead to three points with just over one minute to play and one point with 16 seconds remaining.
Merrill hit two late free-throws and the Chargers secured the 75-72 victory.
Dominican finished the game shooting 45.6% from the field and outscored Daemen 40-28 in the paint. The Chargers also scored 26 points off the bench.
Dominican returns to action this Monday when they welcome Mansfield College to the Hennessy Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
