Second Half Surge Pushes New Haven Past STAC, 56-43

West Haven, Conn. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team got off to a good start on Sunday afternoon against hosts, the University of New Haven, leading 30-25 at halftime, but it was all New Haven from then on, as the Chargers defeated the Spartans, 56-43.  STAC is now 1-5 on the season; while New Haven improves its record at 4-2.

Sophomore Angelique Holguin (Perth Amboy, N.J.) led St. Thomas Aquinas in scoring on Sunday, as she netted 11 points.

In her 2021-22 regular season debut for the Spartans, senior Alexa Huertas (Haverstraw, N.Y.) recorded nine points, all from beyond the arc in 18 minutes of action.

Freshman Erin Leary (Carle Place, N.Y.) led the way on the boards for STAC, grabbing eight rebounds, while also scoring seven points.

The Chargers ultimately won the rebounding battle on Sunday pulling down 47 caroms to 29 for the Spartans.

New Haven's Brie Pergola led all scorers in the game with 18 points, while Camryn DeBose registered 13 points. Aurora Deshaies and Briana Vancleaf cleaned up on the glass, posting 12 and 11 rebounds respectively.

Up next, STAC hosts Post University on Wednesday, December 1 at Aquinas Hall. The mid-week matchup between the Spartans and Eagles gets underway in Sparkill at 5:30pm.
