SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – Bentley University defeated the American International College women's basketball team 64-42 in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, January 7.
AIC drops to 6-8 overall and 4-4 in the NE10.
Tia-Marie Martinez opened the scoring with a jumper, but an early 7-0 Bentley run put the Falcons ahead 10-4 before Kayla Robinson scored two baskets in a row. However, the Falcons closed the first with another run to lead 16-8 at the break.
That run extended into the second frame; Bentley led 21-8 before Julia Carbonell Munoz stopped it with a basket. The teams ultimately traded points the whole way through; Taylor Tomlinson's lay-in at the last moment put AIC within a 33-25 margin at halftime.
Bentley started the third strong, outscoring AIC 11-1. That effectively put the game out of reach, and the Falcons closed the game with a 15-6 fourth quarter to earn the 64-42 win.
Robinson was AIC's leading scorer with 13. Tomlinson notched nine, along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
The team turns around quickly to face Molloy University at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 8.
