Women's Basketball Tops Franklin Pierce for Fourth-Straight, 79-62

Raymond and Glidden double-doubles lead Skyhawks to fourth-straight win

EASTON, Mass. (February 8, 2022) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 9 in this week's D2SIDA East Region poll, got a pair of double-double performances and rode a plus-30 rebounding margin to a fourth-straight win with a 79-62 victory over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium tonight.

How it Happened

  • Stonehill emerged from a timeout after not scoring for the first three minutes of the game, while Franklin Pierce scored the first five points of the contest, and scored the next ten from four different scorers, to reverse the margin (10-5) after a jumper by Glidden midway through the quarter.
  • Stonehill carried an eight-point lead (22-14) into the second quarter behind six from Glidden who led five Skyhawks with four points or more in the first frame.

    Stonehill extended its lead to ten (26-16) after a Jada Thornton layup off a Glidden steal less than two minutes into the second quarter.
  • Franklin Pierce rallied back within a pair (29-27) with an 11-3 run, keyed by five points by Gimenez Monserrat and capped by a Carter triple with 5:47 remaining in the half.
  • Stonehill followed that with a 15-3 run to open a 14-point cushion (46-32) after a Raymond three with 1:40 to play in the half as she scored seven points in all during that stretch.
  • Stonehill took a 12-point advantage (46-34) into halftime and wouldn't allow Franklin Pierce back within double digits the rest of the way.
  • The Skyhawks worked their lead to 16 (57-41) after a Raymond layup with 3:18 left in the third quarter.
  • Stonehill's lead was still 15 (61-46) after Santoro opened the fourth quarter with a jumper, but Franklin Pierce trimmed its deficit to ten (61-51) after a layup by Gimenez Monserrat with 7:20 to go.
  • Stonehill didn't break, using an 11-3 run over the next four minutes to regain an 18-point lead (74-56) on a three-pointer by freshman Katelyn Mollica and would win going away from there.

Noteworthy

  • Stonehill posted an impressive 55-25 rebounding advantage for the contest, pulling down 19 offensive boards to fuel a 20-8 edge in second chance points for the night.
  • Stonehill made 10-of-15 (66.7%) shots in the second quarter and finished shooting 56.8% (21-for-37) from the floor over all in the first half, connecting on 48.6% of its shots for the game.
  • All ten Skyhawks who played had at least one rebound, with five grabbing six or more, and nine of the ten scored.
  • Raymond posted her team-leading fourth double-double of the season (tenth career), scoring in double-figures for the 13th time this season (51st career) in 14 games and eighth-straight.
  • Glidden notched the second double-double of her career, both coming this season, as she scored in double-figures for the sixth time this season (seven career) and pulled down double-digit rebounds for the fifth time in her career.
  • Santoro scored in double-figures for the fifth time over the last seven games and eighth time this season overall (19th career).
  • Semeniak's career-high ten points surpassed a previous high of eight against Franklin Pierce in December 2019.
  • Stonehill is 27-10 over Raymond's career when she is its leading scorer.
  • Raymond's 18 points give her 1,023 in 61 career games, moving into a tie for 31st in program history.
  • Stonehill has won four-straight for the first time this season, posting six wins over the last seven contests and seven of nine since December 15.
  • Tonight's game continues a February stretch for Stonehill that will see it play nine games over the final three weeks of the regular season. The Skyhawks are not scheduled to have more than three days off (just one more remaining) between games over the next 15 days.
  • The Skyhawks hit the road for three-straight over the next six days.
