Dolphins outscore Skyhawks 17-6 over final five to turn back comeback effort

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (January 8, 2022) – Le Moyne College outscored Stonehill College 17-6 over the final five minutes to hold off a Skyhawks comeback from double-digits down in the first half to claim a 70-59 victory in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action on Ted Grant Court inside the Henninger Athletic Center this afternoon.

How it Happened

    Stonehill overcame a slow start, battling back from as much as a 14-point deficit in the opening quarter to draw even in the fourth, but was unable to grab a lead.
  • Le Moyne, which led by 14 (19-5) after a quarter of play, outscored Stonehill 17-6 over the final five minutes of regulation to hang on for the win.
  • Stonehill opened the second quarter with a 12-3 run to close the gap to five (22-17) after two Bramanti free-throws less than two and a half minutes into the frame.
  • Le Moyne reclaimed a 12-point cushion (33-21) after senior Emma Brinker made one of two at the line 2:11 before halftime, before settling for an eight-point halftime lead (35-27) as Bramanti closed the half with a pair of three-pointers for the Skyhawks.
  • Stonehill started quickly in the second half as well, pulling within four (37-33) after a Raymond layup after two minutes.
  • The Skyhawks pulled within two (47-45) with a three-pointer by freshman Katelyn Mollica with 51-seconds left in the third and was back within a point after a layup from senior Sophie Glidden with 26-second remaining before Fouracre capped the frame with a basket to send the Dolphins into the fourth with a three-point lead (50-47).
  • Kelly opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to pull Stonehill even (50-50) for the first time since it was two-all early in the first quarter, and the Skyhawks drew even again (53-53) after two Kelly free-throws with 5:17 to play.
  • Stonehill was unable to grab a lead, however, as Le Moyne scored the next seven points, sparked by a three-point play by Fouracre, to reclaim the lead for good and the Dolphins sealed the win from there by making 10-of-12 free-throws in the final 45-seconds, including 6-of-6 by Fouracre.

  • Stonehill was playing its first game since its 70-59 win at Franklin Pierce University on December 15 – 24 days ago.
  • Raymond, who scored Stonehill's first 11 points on the game, posted her sixth double-figure scoring game in seven games played this season, with her season-high point total today.
  • Bramanti has scored in double figures all eight games this season (21 career) and has led the Skyhawks in scoring in five of their eight games.
  • Kelly reached double figures for the fourth-straight game with her 12 points, pulling down a career-high nine rebounds.
  • Stonehill shot 53.3-percent from the floor (16-for-30) over the middle two quarters, including 7-for-12 (58.3%) from three-point distance, but just 5-for-30 (16.7%) combined in the first and fourth.
  • Le Moyne outscored Stonehill 17-9 in points off turnovers, with the Skyhawks turning the ball over 18 times, including three shot clock violations, compared to seven for the hosts.
