MARCH 5 RECAP

Just one game featuring a regional team on Thursday in the semifinals of the United States Collegiate Athletics Association semifinals in Pennsylvania. Here’s the scoop:

DAEMEN 68 CONCORDIA-ALABAMA 63

Kyle Clifford totaled 22 of his career-high 25 points in the first half and tied the USCAA Tournament record with seven 3-pointers in 10 attempts to lead Daemen past Concordia-Alabama and lock up a spot in the championship game for a second straight season. Gerald Beverly compiled his 20th double-double of the year with 16 points (6-8 FG), 12 rebounds and three blocked shots, becoming just the fifth Wildcat ever to score 600+ points in a season, and the first since 1991. The Hornets jumped out in front 8-0 before the Cats ended the half ahead 32-31. Daemen stretched the lead to a game-high 11 points (53-42) on a Beverly fast-break dunk at the 12:06 mark before Concordia came back, eventually shaving the deficit to 61-58 with 2:15 to play. Twenty seconds later, Jordan Greene drilled a huge three from the top of the key and Supreme Hannah (15 points, six assists) sank four straight free throws over the final 34 seconds to slam the door shut. Greene recorded eight of his 10 points after halftime for the victors, who reached the 20-win plateau for the fourth straight season and will play either Berea or Rochester for the championship on Saturday afternoon. Dennis Miles racked up 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Hornets, who saw their 17-game win streak go by the boards. The Wildcats shot better overall (43%-33%), though Concordia was deadlier from deep (10-24 to 4-17) and won the glass (46-34), including 24-11 on the offensive end.
