FEBRUARY 2 RECAP

Another arctic blast wiped out four of the five games scheduled for the region on Monday. The one game that did come to fruition wound up being a one-sided affair in the CACC South:

GOLDEY-BEACOM 86 GEORGIAN COURT 59

Parris Ridgeway-Higgs, Kyle Steinbergin and Derrick Archie all scored 18 points and Goldey-Beacom banged a bevy of 3-pointers in hammering Georgian Court at the Wellness Center, pulling within a game of crosstown rival Wilmington for the last playoff spot in the CACC South. The Lightning struck early and led the entire way, unloading 14 unanswered points in expanding a 24-20 lead to 38-20 shortly before halftime. Four different players banged triples to kick off the surge, and then a 31-9 blitz to start the second half expanded the chasm to 71-33 after a Steinbergin bomb (he hit 6-of-10 from downtown Lakewood) with 11:12 to play. Ridgeway-Higgs made 3-of-4 (6-for-7 total FG) and Archie converted 7-of-10 from inside the arc for the winners, who also received a strong all-around game from Chris Getz (15 points, 3-4 from deep, six rebounds, seven assists). Goldey shot 56% on the evening, including a spectacular 13-for-25 from long distance (GCU was 31% and 5-23 by contrast). Juwuan Carter totaled 11 points and Michael Pierre 10 (4-5 FG, 2-2 from 3) off the bench for the Lions, who outscored their guests 26-15 over the final 10:19 to finish strong.

SCHEDULE ISSUES

For details on scheduled make-up games or outright cancellations, check out the Master Schedule under the Schedule tab on the main page of this website. Due to limited open dates, Monday’s Bloomfield-St. Thomas Aquinas game is likely to be canceled, as is tomorrow’s Lincoln-Southern New Hampshire contest. Others have been pushed back, some more than once. Tomorrow’s lone surviving game is a potentially historic one as Philadelphia hosts Wilmington, with Herb Magee sitting one win away from 1,000 over his brilliant career.
