MEN'S RECAP - FEBRUARY 13

Just one game in the region on Monday, and it was a make-up from December between two schools located just four miles apart:

DOMINICAN 74 NYACK 58

Gerrel Irvin racked up 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Dominican used a late first-half blitz in ripping Rockland County rival Nyack at Bowman Gym for its fourth straight victory, moving within one game of securing a home playoff berth. Jonathan Garcia notched a personal-best 15 points (7-9 FG) and Daraja Rodwell tossed in 14 while dishing out four assists for the Chargers, who never trailed on the night but were clinging to a 19-18 lead before exploding. Over the last 6:47 of the half, they reeled off 21 consecutive points while the Warriors attempted just two shots and turned the ball over a whopping eight times. The margin ballooned to 40-18 before a Calvin Willis lay-up ended the barrage and closed out the half. Nyack scored the first five points when play resumed, narrowing its deficit to 40-25, but a Rodwell triple triggered a 25-12 run that expanded the gap to 65-37 after an Irvin put-back with 5:40 to play. The hosts ended the game on a 21-9 run to make the final more respectable, but most of the totals were pretty one-sided, especially shooting (48%-38%), points off turnovers (20-10) and second-chance scoring (26-6). Robert Tyler (16 points, six rebounds), Imran Ritchie (15 points, six assists) and Shawn Witherspoon (10 points) reached double figures for Nyack, whose lone statistical advantage came from the foul line (17-22 to 7-14) in falling for a seventh straight time.
