Bears claim key CACC cross-over win…

  • Bloomfield got the better of Philadelphia in a weather-delayed CACC clash, 76-69, in New Jersey last night. The Bears were paced by the trio of Tianna Smith (20 points, 5 assists, 7-11 FG), Morgan Taylor (18 points) and Tierra Scott (12 points, 7 boards, 5-7 FG) as they ran their winning streak to five games and opened a full game lead over Caldwell in the CACC North with two games left (they meet in the final CACC game date next week; Caldwell won their first encounter this season). The home team trailed 24-16 with 8:21 left in the first half after back-to-back treys from Ram Monica Schacker (career-high tying 26 points; 9-16 FG, 5-8 3FG) but scored the next eight points to even matters at 24 with 4:59 to go. Baskets by Scott and Ariel Wilson sent BC into the break with a 35-30 edge and they maintained it the rest of the night. The BC lead crested at 58-47 (8:37) after a Morgan three-point play and a Wilson hoop yet they could not shed the Rams, who cut the deficit to 69-66 (2:13) thanks to a 7-0 spurt fueled by another Schacker three-pointer and buckets from Tori Arnao (12 points, 10 rebounds; 6-8 FG) and Mary Newell (9 points in 10 minutes off the bench). That was as close as they came, however, as Bloomfield dropped in 7-8 at the line over the next two minutes to lock up the victory. Najah Jacobs added 12 points for the Rams, who dropped to two full games behind the University of the Sciences at the top of the CACC North ladder with three games left to play. Both teams had strong shooting outings (Philadelphia 54%-47%) and each hit seven three-pointers (BC 7-14, Philadelphia 7-15) in a hard-fought contest.
