Women's Game Recaps #76 - 2/23/16

  • Bridgeport defeated Mercy, 75-40, in Monday’s only game, staying alive in the ECC playoff race as a result. The host Purple Knights opened a working margin at the half by ending the stanza with an 11-0 burst, taking a 26-20 edge into the locker room. The Mavericks hung in it and the deficit was still four points (UB, 36-32) with 3:30 left in the third period when the Purple Knights exploded. They finished the period on a 16-5 blitz (52-37) and totally dominated the last quarter (23-3) to run away with the game. In all, the final 11:30 yielded a 39-8 Bridgeport advantage to decide the outcome and bring the PK’s even with Daemen for seventh place in the ECC, two games behind Molloy and St. Thomas Aquinas for the last two playoff spots. Briana Stoddard (16 points, 6 assists, 4-5 3FG), Kadijah Dickson (13 points, 8 boards, 7 dimes), Aurelie Lelanc-Florent (13 points), Sofia Ermeidou (11 points) and Morgen Caution (17 rebounds) filled the key roles for UB as they made 12-25 from long-distance and out-rebounded Mercy by eleven (51-40). Cynthia Perez (12 points) and Deasia Goodson (8 points, 15 rebounds) had solid games for the Mavericks to no avail, as they lost for the ninth straight time.
