Women's Game Recaps #88 - 3/10/16

* Tonight's action was in Rochester, where Roberts Wesleyan began their path in the National Christain College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I tournament with a rout over Oakland City, 97-69. Two program records were established in the blowout, wins in a season (25) and three-pointers made in a game (16). The Redhawks shot the lights out (52% FG, 16-29 3FG), especially in the first half (almost 60% FG, 20-34; and 11-17 from deep), with Brooke Fields (25 points, 8-13 FG, 6-8 3FG, 7 assists) and Lucy Covley (20 points, 7-12 FG, 6-10 3FG) responsible for the most damage. Samantha Courtney added a double-double (16 points, 13 boards) in support as RWC coasted. The home team ended the first period with a 20-4 binge to post a 31-13 edge after one frame and piled on in the second quarter, going into the locker room with a hefty 56-29 advantage. The Lady Oaks (10-13) played RWC even in the second half but the result was long decided. Olivia Carroll (17 points), Christiana Purvis (16 points) and Aricka Prentice (13 points) led Oakland City's attack, one that shot just 32% overall but drilled a dozen three-pointers. Both teams used the ball well, as evidenced by the assist/turnover ratios (RWC 26/13, Oakland City 17/15). The Redhawks, the #1 seed in the Midwest Regional, host #2 seed Lancaster Bible College on Saturday afternoon with the winner moving on to the eight-team national tournament in Indiana next week.
