Women's Game Recaps #54 - 2/3/17

* Friday night basketball proved to be overtime basketball in the region, with the only game of the night resulting in a 92-89 OT victory for Roberts Wesleyan over Bridgeport in Rochester. Brooke Fields netted a career-high 33 points (11-20 FG, 3-5 3FG, 8-11 FT) for the Redhawks, including the last eight RWC points of regulation to prompt the bonus frame. The Purple Knights enjoyed the first serious run of the contest via an 11-0 burst to close the first half with a 45-35 advantage. UB led for virtually all of the third stanza (aside of a 54-all tie) and entered the fourth quarter with a 61-56 edge. Camera Miley's (a near triple-double effort of 24 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists) basket gave UB a 70-60 advantage with 5:43 to go but the fun was just starting. The teams swapped surges (RWC 8-0, followed by a 6-0 Bridgeport binge) to make it a 76-68 game with 1:27 left. Fields was at the center of a 12-4 closing surge for the Redhawks but they still trailed 80-78 with 20 seconds left after a Miley free throw. Fields scored on a drive with :15 left to even it for the last time at 80 and send the game to OT. Roberts Wesleyan started the OT with a 6-1 run and never looked back. Still, UB was within 91-89 with 15 ticks left after an Anastasia Williams (17 points, 14 rebounds) bucket. Fields sank a free throw to make it 92-89 and when Aurelie Leblanc-Florent missed a trey at the horn, the outcome was decided. Emily Miller (19 points in 44 minutes), Taya Andrews (18 points, 8 caroms in 43 minutes) and Necedah James (15 points, 8 rebounds) gave Fields excellent support for the Redhawks, who were stingy with the ball (+10 in turnovers, 14-4) and sank 23-30 at the line. Nicole Johnson (12 points) was solid for UB, which dominated the glass (50-31), made 22-26 at the line and scored all the bench points (28-0). RWC solidifies fourth place in the ECC with the win while UB, losers of their last three games, falls out of the playoff structure for the time being.
