Women’s Game Recaps #61 – 2/12/18

  • Monday’s only game was a non-league affair with New Haven visiting Bloomfield and coming out with a 59-41 victory. Brie Pergola (19 points, 6 rebounds; 7-10 FG, 2-2 3FG, 3-4 FT), Alexandria Kerr (18 points, 11 boards) and Khayla Trowell (10 points) spearheaded a Charger attack which won all four periods and out-shined the Bears in shooting (38-31%) while also profiting in the turnover stakes (20-10 in points-off-TO’s). An 11-0 run bridging the first two quarters put UNH ahead, 22-10, but the Bears ended the half on a 12-5 burst and scored the first five points of the third period to level matters at 27. New Haven responded with a 10-0 spree to go ahead for good (37-27, 3:14). Bloomfield, which is 0-8 in non-conference action this season, closed the deficit to 43-38 with 7:34 remaining but New Haven exploded for the next sixteen points (59-38, 3:59) to nail down the result. Ilysia Lewis (12 points, 7 caroms) and Deja McKenzie (12 points, 5 boards) led the Bears scoring. UNH’s win makes them 4-0 against the CACC this season.

  • This week’s D2SIDA East Regional poll (the last iteration, incidentally, since the official NCAA poll will be released later this week) sees the top two, Stonehill (four 1st place votes) and Sciences (two 1st place votes) remain the same. St. Thomas Aquinas is up two places to #3 with Bentley (#4) and Jefferson (#5) each falling one spot. LIU Post (#6) and Caldwell (#7) stayed where they were last week. The bottom trio is comprised of Roberts Wesleyan (#8), Southern Connecticut (#9) and Southern New Hampshire (#10).
