• Thursday’s trio of games featured a pair of ECC/CACC crossover contests and the first CACC league game of the campaign. The latter is where the report begins…
• Post nailed down the first CACC win of the season thanks to a 74-65 decision at Nyack. The Eagles trailed by as many as nine points in the first half before cutting the Warriors edge to 32-26 at the break and then tallied a pair of 10-0 runs to claim a 48-41 lead with 1:51 left in the third frame. Nyack, facing a 54-44 deficit with 9:38 left in the game, put together a 12-0 burst of their own to go back ahead, 56-54, at the 6:55 mark. That simply prompted the Eagles to answer again, this time a 13-3 sortie sending them ahead to stay (67-59, 1:43). Lauren Chambers (23 points), Sha’Raya Haines (16 points) and Taylor Ceballos (12 points, 7 boards) led the Post effort, one which dominated the glass (53-37) and extended their winning streak to three games. Jocelin Wright (21 points; 8-14 FG, 3-3 3FG) and Elie Nittinger (14 points) pepped up the Nyack offense but were unable to keep the Eagles from taking the win home.
• NK Ilang (17 points, 10 rebounds; 6-7 FG) and Samnell Vonleh (13 points, 10 caroms; 6-9 FG) ruled the paint in leading Bridgeport to a 61-56 non-league success at Goldey-Beacom. Sarah Middleton added 11 points for the Purple Knights as they shot better (44%-29% FG) and pulled in fifteen more rebounds (51-36) to help shape the game. It was a close one much of the night with UB holding 26-21 halftime and 43-38 third period cushions. The Lightning stayed in range and closed the gap to 53-50 at the 1:43 mark after an Amanda McGrogan (12 points, 8 boards) trey but Bridgeport was able to notch the next five points to give themselves enough elbow room (58-50, :35) to see it out. Alanna Speaks (17 points, 8 rebounds) and Tanner Turner-Rush (10 points) contributed double digits to the GBC cause but they fell to 0-3 against ECC foes with the setback.
• LIU Post repelled Bloomfield, 72-48, to get back into the win column. Sasha Patterson (17 points, 18 rebounds) and Shannon Doyle (13 points) were the Pioneers ring-leaders and were pivotal to their team coming back from an early deficit. The Bears jumped to a 15-4 lead less than six minutes into the game but LIU Post scored the next fifteen points (19-15) to take the lead for keeps. The margin was a modest 28-25 at the break but the home team stretched it to 47-37 after three frames. Bloomfield showed some fight in getting back to within 49-42 early in the last stanza but they faltered at that point and saw LIU Post drop a 12-0 run to really create some space (61-42, 4:04) and all but ice the win. Bobbi Floyd (21 points, 13 rebounds) and Caitlyn Townes (10 points) led the BC scoring. Neither team shot very well (LIU Post 35-28% FG) but the Pioneers were superior at getting to the line (24-43 FT) while winless Bloomfield could only split ten free throws (5-10 FT) on the night.
