Women's Game Recaps #31 - 1/6/19

Sunday’s only regional game was another NE10 vs. ECC contest with the NE10 continuing to shine, this one seeing Southern New Hampshire hand Queens a 92-76 defeat in Manchester. Balance and a fast start were the ingredients the Penmen used to get back into the win column, as they streaked to a 16-4 lead early and arrived at the half with a 49-22 bulge. Their advantage peaked at 69-32 (2:50 of the third period) and that pretty much was that. Molly Terry (13 points), Karlee Ziliak, Brianna Camara (12 points each) and Gyanna Russell (10 points) all hit double digits for an SNHU team that scored the most points for the program in almost eleven years (93 against Merrimack on January 19, 2008). The cozy win shouldn’t overshadow a great performance from Knights guard Beth Bonin, though. She tossed in a career-high 34 points on 11-21 shooting, including 6-15 from three-point territory and 6-6 at the foul line. My’eesa Grant added 16 points (8-11 FT) and seven rebounds for Queens but it was nowhere near sufficient to make this a game, sending QC to its third straight loss. SNHU shot better as a team (49%-43% FG) and more than doubled the Knights on the glass (48-22) on a day when both teams fared well at the foul line (SNHU 15-16; QC 16-21 FT).
